Over time beds made of cotton pillow tops or polyurethane foams will breakdown and sag. This breaking down can cause your back to hurt. One other thing that happens is people change as they age and need to change the firmness of their mattress. If you have been sleeping comfortably for years on a soft mattress and now having pain you may need to evaluate your situation. Have you gained or lost any weight? Do you see a dip in your mattress? Have you checked the mattress foundation: is it a box spring, solid wooden platform, slatted, made of steel bars? Is anything broken or sagging and not looking sound? Have you changed your sleeping habits such as going from a back sleeper to a side sleeper or rock-climbing stomach sleeper? Did you change your pillows? All of these things make a difference in your overall sleep and how you feel when you wake up.
Good news: you might not need a new bed or mattress! Latex toppers and pillows can make the difference that you need to sleep and feel good again. If you need to firm up or soften your bed, a latex topper could do wonders. If you have a significantly sagging bed, you might want to try to put something such as a soft towel to "fill" the dip before placing a topper on the mattress. I know people who have done this and loved their bed again. Remember if your mattress is still in good shape, you could improve its comfort level and also make your bed last longer by employing the right latex topper that perfectly suits you. Most of the really high end mattress use latex foam as their top layer of material for comfort. You can do the same thing yourself and save thousands of dollars. Don’t overlook your pillows, they, too, can make a big difference in how you feel. Most cheap pillows break down surprisingly fast because the are just fiber fill materials. Latex is naturally resilient and will keep the same shape for many years. Sometimes your pain is remedied as easy as changing your pillow.
Why suffer from sleeping on a bad mattress if you do not need to? In this day of age, anything that can spare us from any additional stress and pain is priceless! And why take a chance with materials that you will be sleeping on everyday? All of our latex bedding products are Oeko-Tex Standard 100 certified, which means that you will not need to worry about any hazardous elements sneaking into your bodies while you sleep.

One needs to know that choosing the right size of mattress requires serious consideration. This is because the mattress is one of the most commonly used and probably the most important furniture in the house. Individuals spend one third of their life in bed. (Some might claim that they don't or can't but adequate sleep is an important ingredient in healthy living.) Since the bed or mattress is a very important furniture and a very good mattress is indeed a necessity, one tends to buy it like an investment. Our Talalay latex foam mattress (and toppers), for example, wil last for many, many years. Therefore, if it's the wrong size, it would not feel good throwing away an important investment. It's recommendable, of course that one must choose the size that gives one the most space, like a California King bed for a couple, for example. However, there are other important considerations that we have listed down for you:
How many people are going to sleep on the mattress at the same time?
How much sleeping space is required by each sleeper, particularly how big and tall?
How much room is there in the room for the mattress?
Who is this mattress for? Is it going in a guest room?
How much money are you willing to spend upfront and later?
Twin size beds are usually used for small children. Being the smallest of all the standard bed sizes, they cost the least and buying sheets for them are very easy. Twin size beds are very commonly used in bunk beds, which is a great idea if you have children that share a room.
The extra-long twin beds are usually 5 inch longer than standard twin beds. This twin bed is good enough for a single person and where space is a real issue. Most college dorms have Twin XL beds.
Full and double beds are usually a luxury choice for a single person that wants more comfortable room. Some very small built couple may also get by sleeping on a full bed if space is an issue. The sheets and bedding are common and less expensive, too.
The extra-long full bed may be a better choice for a tall person that love to have spacious sleeping room at the same time. Should we say that two tall people may be okey on a full bed? Maybe not. We don't see the beddings very common for this size either.
The Queen bed is a very common choice for couples. There should be enough comfortable room for two in this size. The Queen size is also very popular even for single individuals that just want total freedom with sleeping space. A queen size bed is also being a very common choice for guest rooms.
Eastern or Standard King beds are a better choice for couples if money and room space are not an issue. This size offers couples the maximum amount of bed width and is the same size as two extra-long twin beds side by side. A king bed size usually has the box spring in two pieces for easy moving.
The California King is the longest of all standard mattresses. This is usually the better choice for tall people who prefer a king size bed.
Needless to say maybe, king (Eastern or California) mattresses are a good choice for couples that have children. We don't find many disagree that children do sleep with their parents from time to time. The sheets and beddings for king mattresses are most expensive but, hey, they are the star of the mattresses and deserve special attention!
Good luck! Use your noodles in choosing the right size!
]]>I remember back in the days that it wasn't common to hear discussions about a mattress and that I never cared much either where I slept. I would have a sleepover at Grandma's house, my Aunt B's, or at a friend's house and I didn't pay much attention to what they had for me to sleep on. The funny thing is that I don't remember complaining about getting up with any discomfort or soreness. I certainly didn't have the most luxurious mattress at the time even in my home. Another interesting thing is that I didn't know anyone that had any issues with their mattress either.
In some parts of the world right now, some people don't even have a mattress and others that do have a simplistic one-perhaps an innerspring something if not a piece of plywood or wooden board that's elevated from the ground (We know of that here as bed foundation. And yes- that is "bed" for other people!).
So just recently I had to purchase a mattress and it was a strange experience-there were so many types to choose from. Now I am confused-which one? Have modern people just gotten spoiled? Are we getting to the point where we "can't get no satisfaction?" What is really behind all these? Maybe I just didn't know anything?
In my adult life I have purchased a mattress long, long ago and I don't think that I gave it any thought at all. I went to the local store and I asked "how much?" then I said "that one." I was familiar of innerspring but what is it that they call now "pillowtop", "euro top"? So, there's one called memory foam mattress? Latex foam mattress? Mattress made out of horse hair-are you kidding? Adjustable mattress, too? After studying all these types of mattresses that were now available to me and trying one after another, I found one that's I loved! I never knew that one could fall in love with a mattress. Now, I just realized that I had an issue with my old mattress. I thought that I needed a Chiropractor and a weekly massage. I thought I needed those pain relievers.
Now I am an expert in this science called "sleeping." Here's what everyone must understand - none of us has a flat body. Also no two of us would have exactly the same body configuration and requirements to get that perfectly relaxing sleep. With that said, there is no mattress manufacturer that will create a perfect mattress customized to every individual. However, it is possible for every individual to still attain personalized comfort by finding the right sleeping material that will perfectly conform to whatever their body weight/shape is.
The illustration below is very helpful to help one understand the natural position that our spine must have if we are sleeping on our back, side, or stomach. Remember that the curvature of our bodies make it impossible for our spine to stay properly aligned if lying on a firm surface that doesn't give. In the illustration below you will find that it is important that the sleeping material must act like a mold to absorb the body's curvature and allow proper alignment for the spine.
How you sleep is important: Side sleepers need firmer pillows and support given a large space gap between the mattress and their ear and shoulder blade. However, the same sleeper may need a plusher mattress to support the hips and shoulders (and associated contours) which exert a lot of pressure on the mattress which could lead to more pressure points.
If you sleep on your back, you may want to consider a medium firmness pillow to avoid the spine from improperly bending. To prevent back pain, stomach sleepers may need a lower profile or plusher pillow to ensure the neck and spine are in alignment.
It matters what material is on top of your mattress. A sleeping material that has the most consistent cell structure is highly recommended to do the job!

]]>Latex is one of the best choices for mattress toppers. We offer an extensive variety of bare latex toppers (or sheets) in 1-inch, 2-inch, 3-inch, and 6-inch thickness. You may layer two or more toppers of any given thickness and firmness ratings to create a modular mattress topper that is perfectly customized to suit your personal taste and comfort needs:
Our 1-inch thick latex toppers can help if you need to tweak your mattress on the surface. For example, an extra soft 1-inch can soften your mattress surface without significantly reducing its support; a 1-inch of proper firmness can smoothe a tightly tufted mattress and make it more comfortable; a firm 1-inch can effectively firm up a sagging mattress, or it can make a very lightly padded brand new firm mattress for a light-to-average sleeper who is looking for just albeit of give.
For light to average-weight sleepers, 1-inch can mean drastic change. It is important to choose the right firmness rating.
There are endless uses of a 1-inch topper, and its flexibility is unparalleled. For example, as long as its width permits, you may fold a 1-inch lengthwise once or even twice if you would like to instantly experience how you would like two or three inches of it. By lying on it while it is folded, you could get a more concrete idea of whether you would need a thicker topper and what combination of layers you may need to better serve your personal needs. A Single-Bed size 1-inch is great to take along when you travel in order to make your stay away from home more comfortable just like home.
Our 2-inch toppers can drastically change the overall firmness of a mattress for most sleepers. Just an example, most light-to-average-weight sleepers can achieve an adequately enveloping experience by placing a soft 2-inch topper on a relatively firm mattress . A 2-inch topper usually of correct firmness usually fixes an intolerably firm mattress for a light-to-average pear-shaped sleeper without jeopardizing mattress support. With a firm or extra firm 2-inch topper, an extremely saggy mattress can be completely reversed for a heavier individual.
For the majority of sleepers, a 2-inch is the most effective first step to fix an extremely firm mattress. If it does not completely fix the problem, an additional 1-inch or 2-inch topper may be layered with it to complete the feel that you are looking for.
Our 3-inch toppers can generally change a mattress drastically for anyone, lightweight and heavyweight individuals alike. There is generous material in a soft 3-inch to sink in, just an example, and a 3-inch is enough to create a surface feel that is not so much dependent of the underlying surface. There are select sleepers, mostly lightweight back sleepers, who can actually use a 3-inch topper as a mattress by itself providing adequate comfort.
A heavy sleeper on an intolerably firm mattress may require a 3-inch to be comfortable. Average to heavy weight sleepers who want a cloud-nine experience may achieve that experience in a 3-inch soft topper. Generally, lighter weight pear-shaped side sleepers should avoid a very soft 3-inch topper as it may compromise the needed support for the much heavier hips and cause misaligned spine.
Given that the firmness rating is right, our 3-inch topper can provide a good balance of support and cushioning for anyone.
Definitely, a 6-inch can easily dominate the overall feel of a mattress. Note that Talalay latex has uniform firmness from top to bottom, and so we recommend against going too soft for what you need because it will lack enough support. A 6-inch is best to use as mattress core, and it is layered with another to finish the needed comfort level. It is common that a softer layer is placed directly over a firmer core and or with an intermediate layer. A firmer 6-inch alone serves as a mattress for a select group of sleepers: those who are lightweight to average built who sleep on their sides and many back sleepers.
A solid 6-inch Dunlop latex is more suited to be used alone compared to a 6-inch Talalay latex. This is because Dunlop latex is progressively "layered" naturally. Its density/fir,mess is inconsistent and gradually increases from its top to bottom, a similar configuration that is employed in mattress building and simply unavoidable when using a Dunlop latex core. We advise that lside sleepers choose softer Dunlop latex cores and try no to get too firm. If the proper firmness is chosen, a ot of times, a comfortable medium surface is achieved using a 6-inch latex core alone, if not an additional thin layer of soft rating is all that would be required to tweak it.

Sleep tight... don't let the Bed Bugs bite!!
Bed bugs seem to be everywhere these days: they are in hotels, motels, dorm rooms, and even movie theaters... and may be on their way to your home...
]]>Bed bugs seem to be everywhere these days: they are in hotels, motels, dorm rooms, and even movie theaters... and may be on their way to your home.
Bed bugs at one time were pretty much eradicated in the United States. You didn't hear much about them for years but as time went on and the pesticides that were used successfully to get rid of the bed bugs were banned, the bed bugs have once again made a resurgence. They are immune to many pesticides and that makes them hard to kill. Even a professional will probably have to do many treatments to get rid of them. They are elusive and they travel wherever people go. They will take a ride in your suitcase or in your purse or anywhere else that they can hide.
When you travel, don't buy suitcases that have no zippers on the outside pockets and you should make sure to keep your suitcases zipped. If you have a purse make sure it to can be completely zipped as well. When you leave the place you are staying, inspect the outside of your bags to make sure you don't have any unwanted guests traveling with you.
At home when you have a new mattress delivered you should right away put a zippered bed bug proof mattress cover on it because most mattress stores use the same truck to deliver and pick up your old mattress. If someone else had bed bugs in their old mattress that was transported in the same truck as your new mattress, you might inherit the problem with bed bugs living in your home if you don't put a zippered bed bug proof cover over your new mattress immediately. Once you put the zippered bed bug proof cover on, the bed bugs won't be able to get out and will die eventually. The price of a bed bug proof cover will probably cost you much less then an exterminator. It only takes one bed bug to get in your home and lay eggs to infest your whole home. Keep in mind that bed bugs can go many months without eating so don't take the zippered bed bug cover off. The best defense against the bed bugs is to keep them out of your home in the first place.
If you think your home is already infested with bed bugs then you need to do what you can to isolate the problem. Keep the room free of clutter and hiding places and use a bed bug proof cover on your mattress. You should also look for cracks in the wall, lose electrical plates, lifted up wallpaper or any place else that they could be hiding. The less places they have to hide the easier to find and exterminate them. Although some people have been successful in removing the infestation themselves most have not been successful so you really should consider hiring a professional.
If you live in an apartment or dorm you will have to get with management so that the whole community can be involved. Without everyone's cooperation,
chances are the bed bugs will be back soon. The longer you let the problem go, the harder it will be to eradicated these bed bugs.
This article would not be complete without letting you know some of the warning signs of bed bug infestations. Things you should be on the lookout for are:
Exoskeleton of the bed bugs: When bed bugs molt they leave behind an exoskeleton that is brownish in color and looks kind of like a squished bug;
Use your nose: Places that are infested with bed bugs will often but not always have a sweet and slightly musty odor in the air depending on how long the infestation has been;
Bed bugs: You may see the creatures themselves in the folds or in the box-springs of your bed. Bed bugs are large enough for your eyes to see but they can flatten their bodies to fit into even the tiniest cracks;
Feces left behind: Bed bugs often leave behind a brownish red or rusty colored spots on the mattress or surrounding areas near the bed;
Bites: You may see bites on your arms, face or feet. They may show up right away or may take a couple of weeks to show up. The bites are similar looking to that of the mosquito.
Just remember that bed bugs will live anywhere that people do. When you are traveling always be on the lookout for signs that they are around and never leave anywhere without inspecting your belongings first. You should be fine as long as you keep your mind open to the possibility that bed bugs might be around.
]]>Have you ever experienced a lack of sleep? If I was to make a dollar on every "Yes" that I get on that question I would be a multi-billionaire. Everyone has experienced not getting enough sleep at one time or another. While some of us suffer from this just once in a while others constantly just can't sleep or can't be comfortable in their sleep. The result is agony in the morning-you're just not ready to start your day. With all the daily challenges everyone faces, whether it be big or small, a good night's rest is almost as important as food and water.
When we sleep, our body rests and rejuvenates and restores its energy levels. A deep, good night's sleep is often the best way to help your body heal and regain strength, and for your mind to rest and develop new ideas. If deprived with good sleep, our body is not ready to perform physically at its best and our minds just can't get creative at its best, we can't concentrate, our memory is short term. Without enough sleep, we tend to be cranky, short tempered, impatient -we tend to lose our real inner being and our personal relationships can be also affected. Continually not getting the rest that we need for a prolonged period of time, called chronic sleep problem, can cause complications to illnesses that we may already have or help develop serious health problems like diabetes. Not to mention, sleep deprivation is also known to be one of the common causes of accidents.
There are many different factors that can contribute to your sleep problem such as:
No one needs to be lectured why a deep good night's sleep is very important. Many people, however, do not realize right away that a better sleep can result from simply changing their mattress!
]]>Probably one of the excellent benefits of owning an all-latex mattress that many haven’t realized is the flexibility to change it. If ever one needs to either downsize or upsize a latex mattress, they can do it without having to replace the mattress entirely.
If you’re like many that enjoy the luxurious comfort of your current latex mattress, you probably would like the same exact feel if you would need a different size. If you know the ILD ratings of your latex foam and if you know where you can buy them, there shouldn’t be any issue unless you don’t want to spend your money. It will be very disappointing, however, to find out that the replacement mattress did not feel exactly the same as the one that you loved. This can happen because foams that are rated with the same ILD’s may not feel exactly the same because between production runs, variations that are within the manufacturer’s tolerances can exist and for some of us that refer to themselves as “the princess and the pea” a slight variation can make a huge difference in your sleep. Not to mention, what if you really didn’t know the ILD’s of the foams that you own or what if they just don’t make it anymore?
The ideal thing to do is to keep the mattress that we have but what about the size? It is not impossible to change to a different size mattress without getting rid of your current mattress… if you have an all-latex foam mattress, particularly the one that you’ve built yourself by stacking layers of foam that you didn’t glue. You will find this pretty easy to do and you can save a lot of money.
With a sharp electric carving knife, you can cut the foams to make your mattress smaller. Simply cut each of your foam layers but with caution as these knives are very sharp and unforgiving. When cutting the foam, make sure that you hold the knife down perpendicularly to the foam to ensure a straight edge cut. With Talalay latex foam, it is easier to cut straight if you cut through the holes.
Downsizing is simple but upsizing shouldn’t be scary at all. You’ll be surprised to find out how many customers have revealed to us that they needed to upgrade to a King size from a Queen size or from a Full size to a Queen size.
If upgrading to a King size, the first thought that comes to the minds of many is to cut down the existing Queen mattress (60” x 80”), for example, to a Twin XL (38” x 80”) and purchase another Twin XL and place the two Twin XL mattresses side by side, thus, creating a split Eastern King (76” x 80”) mattress. This is the easiest solution but really the most expensive solution. The price of a 9-inch Twin XL all-Talalay-Latex International mattress, foam only, costs $1,200 on the average. However, the more important question is what if both sleeping partners loved the mattress and no one wanted to change it?
An alternative solution is to use extensions. If you would need to change your Queen size foam layers to Eastern King, you can choose to extend the width of the mattress by adding a 16” x 80” foam to only one side or by adding a 8’ x 80” foam to each side. One disadvantage of this approach is that in order to keep the feel of the mattress the same you will need to make sure that you use foams that match the firmness of your mattress. If you have several layers, it may not be easy to find all the foams that you need and it can get very costly to buy the different ILD’s especially if you could only buy the foams in full sizes. One trick is to extend on the sides that you will not sleep on, such as the edges. You may browse our selection of scrap latex foams that can help you with your project.
Probably the better thing to do is to rotate your mattress by 180 degrees so that you would need to add to the bottom of the mattress instead. If rotated, the Queen-size mattress will be 80" wide and 60" long. Trim 8” off the side and place a 76” x 20” foam at the bottom and, wala-you have an Eastern King mattress! Since you only need to extend the bottom of your mattress, the extension foams do not need to match the firmness of your mattress and it can be on the softer side, too, because your leg and foot will appreciate a softer surface.
Because you only need to add to the foot of the mattress, you don’t even need to use exactly the same foam. You can find a store that sells inexpensive latex foams if you’re on a tight budget or you can visit our scrap foam page to buy pieces of foams at a fraction of the cost.
With regards to keeping all of your foams together,you have two choices: either glue the extensions to the mattress using a foam and fabric spray or just lay them down together inside a well fitting mattress cover preferably with zipper. You may browse our selection of zipper mattress covers.
If you need to upgrade a mattress topper only and not a mattress, the same principle applies.
Note that altering your foams will void the warranty of your mattress or mattress topper. After weighing the pros and cons of the solutions suggested here, if you decided that the warranty will not do you any good if you cannot use your existing mattress, then start your project now.

Our latex foams will arrive to you in compressed state. Can you imagine your 9 inch Queen size mattress packed in three 31 x 6 x 25 inch boxes? The question is, can you fit the foams back into those boxes if you would need to return them?
The answer is yes....
]]>Pick a corrugated box that you will use;
Use a large plastic bag that has no holes. A 2 mil thickness is ideal for it is thick enough to hold air in but is still flexible for the purpose. You may use the bag that your topper was sent in;
Fold the topper in half or to a size that you believe will make the foam fit into your box after it is compressed. Remember that the softer foams have more air and can be compressed more;
While the foam is inside the bag, insert the tip of a clean vacuum cleaner hose in between the fold and squeeze the end of the bag around the vacuum so that there is just enough room for the hose;
Turn the vacuum cleaner on and wait until the topper has been vacuumed down to the desired size;
Turn the vacuum cleaner off and allow approximately 5 seconds before carefully pulling the hose out. Be very cautious for you do not want to pull part of the foam and damage it;
Quickly twist the bag and tie a tight knot;
Place the vacuumed topper inside the box and completely seal the box. Make sure to tape all the seams to help keep the foam compressed and also so that no bugs could "ride" during transportation.
We do ask our customers to rate their mattress from 0 to 10, with 10 being the least comfortable. 1 You can sleep like a bear and all you wish to do is sleep all day
2 You can sleep through the night feeling refreshed and no aching in the morning
3 You can sleep through the night with very minor complaint...the mattress is almost perfect for you
4 You can sleep through the night but had sore or aching muscles that go away immediately
5 You can sleep through the night but had sore or aching muscles and you can't move immediately when you wake up
6 You toss and turn trying to find the comfortable spot but stay asleep
7 You can sleep very shortly, probably wake up two times during the night
8 You can sleep for 2 hours. you wake up too many times from discomfort
9 You can't bear lying on it for even 15 minutes... you're required to sleep somewhere else like the couch
10 You dislike the thought of laying on it so much that you can't even look at it. You don't even want to give your mattress away to your dog because you feel bad for him
What is a mattress foundation? Well, in simple terms a mattress foundation is anything that your mattress sits on. Some of us place their mattresses directly on the floor but most of us choose to have their mattresses raised from the floor.
When someone builds a house the most important part is planning and building the foundation because a good foundation will create a stable and long lasting home. Your mattress is no different. If the foundation is made poorly and of low-quality materials, then the mattress will not sit properly and even the best mattress will not feel as good or last as long as it should.
Choosing the right mattress foundation is just as important as choosing the right mattress. The mattress foundation will support your mattress and affect its overall performance. The most basic and most important features to look for are strength, durability, and equally balanced support. A good mattress foundation should provide a strong and stable support and allow your mattress to be in its most natural state, with no part of it bulging or sagging.
There are several types of mattress foundations. The most common type is a box spring. A box spring is a set of vertical springs that are housed inside an upholstered wooden frame. Usually, the upholstery matches that of the mattress that it is sold with. A box spring usually comes with a metal frame that has casters. It is important that the metal frame is sturdy and has center supports for your box spring. Legs may also be installed on your box spring to replace the metal frame.
Another common type of mattress foundation is a wooden foundation. Wooden foundations can be solid platform or slatted. Slatted foundations come with slats that go across and each slat is commonly 1 inch thick and 3 inch wide and approximately 2 inch apart from one another. Some slatted foundations have adjustable slats.
The mattress foundation does affect the overall feel of a mattress. Certainly, a more flexible foundation like a box spring or a slatted foundation, allows the mattress to move or adjust as it carries your weight. Box springs that are made with heavier gauge wires and slatted foundations that are made with stronger and bigger slats spaced less apart do not flex as easy. A firm and solid mattress foundation firms up any mattress. To firm up or soften a mattress, changing the mattress foundation sometimes helps.
Another factor to consider when choosing a mattress foundation is its functionality. While most mattress foundations are flat and always in sleeping position, some foundations have adjustable positions: they can be flat, reclined, and can be adjusted in any way to relax your body while you are awake or asleep. These are called power adjustable bases.

You can accessorize any mattress foundations with a foot board and a headboard to complete the looks that you hoped to create in your bedroom. It would be the least important thing to consider but when choosing a mattress foundation, make sure that you can easily attach to it your favorite headboard and foot board.
